The Rainbow Fly
Suddenly, because tomorrow I have a VIP Day. I wanted to eat Bacon for Dinner, so I took a Bacon walk to the supermarket La Colonia. Yeah, a kind of Penal Colony because who else but Bono ...
… Yeah, that creepy dude/cowgal from U2, almost bumped into me, pissing off my Delicious like Darling Bacon. I almost hit him but realized I just don´t hit women or whining little biatches, plus, because of the worldwide post-Covidiot crisis he wouldn´t get any stitches in Nicaragua. Today was Bono´s lucky day, he was literally “born again”! And no, he didn´t thank me for my huge favor. Yet, what could you expect from such an ill-educated Irish prick?!
Wait! I lied! Bono came up to me, crawling, sobbing, SOB, begging me for forgiveness. Well, because it was almost my Birthday, I made his wish come true, Forgiveness Granted! No, I didn´t shag him, even though he is from U2, I am not gay! Though, yes, I remain the International Man of Mystery, poised and willing to penetrate … oops! In the end, no, I told you I hadn´t done it, I started to kinda like this creepy dude/cowgal because he dedicated a love song to my Love, The Fly. He looks like a fly, ha ha ha! As a Bonus from Bono. Eerily Lovely From U2! It´s for us, children, we are children, actually, babies! So, thanks, Bono, thanks U2! No, no Fuck U2! Why? Please don´t ask me why! But keep walking, man! C´mon man!
The Fly
Oh, baby child
It's no secret that the stars are falling from the sky
It's no secret that our world is in darkness tonight
They say the sun is sometimes eclipsed by a moon
You know I don't see you when she walks in the room
It's no secret that a friend is someone who lets you help
It's no secret that a liar won't believe anyone else
They say a secret is something you tell one other person
So I'm telling you, child
A man will beg
A man will crawl
On the sheer face of love
Like a fly on a wall
It's no secret at all
It's no secret that a conscience can sometimes be a pest
It's no secret ambition bites the nails of success
Every artist is a cannibal, every poet is a thief
All kill their inspiration and sing about their grief
Over love
A man will rise
A man will fall
From the sheer face of love
Like a fly from a wall
It's no secret at all
Love, we shine like a
Burning star
We're falling from the sky
Tonight
A man will rise
A man will fall
From the sheer face of love
Like a fly from a wall
It's no secret at all
Oh, yeah!
It's no secret that the stars are falling from the sky
The universe exploded 'cause of one man's lie
Look, I gotta go, yeah I'm running outta change
There's a lot of things, if I could I'd rearrange
Oh man! Does this song describe a conversation between a couple having a bitter break up, a man and a woman? The man is steadfast in his resolution to break up, though it torments him and the woman he loves. She constantly hurt him in the past by not being faithful to him by his standards, but he endured through it. now he finally doesn't see any point in continuing the relationship, but she accuses him of abandoning her for a better future for himself. He tries to explain to her that it was in her hands, and she kept choosing to be unfaithful and caused him pain he is now running away from, but she is reluctant to accept his explanations, she accuses him of putting on excuses in order to get rid of her, as in her mind he never really loved her: if he did, he wouldn't have left her over a trivial thing, which he insists to call a betrayal! I dunno, but do!
And this masterpiece song has to be The Edge's finest moment, as there are no words to describe that guitar solo. And it´s written as somebody talking on a pay-phone to somebody, hence the:
Look, I gotta go, yeah, I'm running outta change!!!
Even Bono knows how ridiculous he must appear to some people, e.g. to us, LOL! “Look I gotta go, I’m running outta change” is a line Bono could never have sung convincingly in 1985, it indicates he’s got other things on his mind than saving the world. In that sense, it´s about ambition, the pursuit of success, and the change process people suffer trying to become successful in the show business. From a certain perspective you have to become what people expect you to become, and in some cases you stop being yourself, forgetting where you started, where it all had begun.
U2 are addressing the audience, on the first person, and giving a warning: "everything you know is wrong"... the motivation is there, it´s a song about deceit, betrayal, about becoming successful and the dangers success brings. It's a song full of irony, of someone advising you in a very cynical way, to be aware of what you see on TV, to be suspicious about all the "glamoor" of success, of the so called happiness sold by the soap operas and so on. You have to cease being yourself to become a character, consequently a lie. When you embrace success, you have to lie to make a living, and that hurts if you have a conscience. You can be very successful and still feel like shit. The higher you climb, the higher you fall. One day you are on the top of the world and everyone is cheering you, the other you are a simple fly on the wall and no one knows you. Biting the nails of success.
Bono once said this was a conversation someone had with a man who had been sent to hell. A call from hell. Most of their lyrics are religion based. Where The Streets Have No Names is a good example. They're talking about heaven, Nicaragua, With You, a True Revolutionary Commie Paradise, really! LOL!
Is this Rainbow Fly post the pinnacle of human achievement and expression, what is beautiful about life and love? LOL? NO LOL? From what I've heard, listening to it a hundred times, this is the narrative of a fly on the wall in hell ... making a prank phone call to the world to let them know what it's observing ... there's a lot of things, if I could I'd rearrange ...
