Favorite Crime (Alleged Lyrics Meaning)
Sadly, level your charges for me. I will happily flatten them for you. I just couldn´t love you more as you just couldn´t love me less. Darling, I am yours as much as you are mine, Lynn.
You use Me as an alibi / I cross Your heart as You cross the line
And I defend You to all My scars
I use You as an alibi / You cross My heart as I cross the line
And You defend Me to all Your scars
´Cause, baby, I am Your Favorite Crime
Baby, ´cause You are My Favorite Crime
´Cause, baby, I´m Yours as You´re Mine
Know that I loved you so bad
I let you treat me like that
I was your willing accomplice, honey
And I watched as you fled the scene
Doe-eyed as you buried me
One heart broke, four hands bloody
Those things I did
Just so I could call you mine
The things you did
Well, I hope I was your favorite crime
You used me as an alibi
I crossed my heart as you crossed the line
And I defended you to all my friends
And now, every time a siren sounds
I wonder if you're around
'Cause you know that I'd do it all again
All the things I did
Just so I could call you mine
The things you did
Well, I hope I was your favorite crime
It's bittersweet to think about the damage that we do
'Cause I was going down, but I was doing it with you
Yeah, everything we broke, and all the trouble that we made
But I say that I hate you with a smile on my face
Oh, look what we became
All the things I did
Just so I could call you mine
All the things you did
Well, I hope I was your favorite crime
Your favorite crime
Your favorite crime
'Cause baby, you were mine
“Favorite Crime” is the tenth track on Olivia Rodrigo’s 2021 album ‘Sour.’ In the song, Olivia compares her breakup to a crime courtesy of the fact that she gave everything she had to him and he still walked away.
Verse 1
The first verse of the song narrates the murder scene. Olivia lays on the ground and there is a hole where her heart was. There is a doe-eyed boy with his hands bloody. There is another girl with her hands bloody as well. Both of them have a blank expression on their faces and they watch as life leaves Olivia’s face. The new couple walks into the sunset as Olivia bleeds out.
Yes, it’s about Olivia getting heartbroken by the guy she was dating. He cheated on Olivia with another girl and moved on with her. This story sounds quite familiar to the stories found in the rest of the album “Sour”.
Chorus
Olivia Rodrigo sings that she went out of her way to make him happy and make their relationship work. But he moved on so fast after breaking her heart. Olivia considers all of this an act worthy of the label of a ‘crime.’ Maybe stealing her heart, breaking it, and stomping on it is what she calls a crime.
Verse 2
Even during their relationship, there were red flags she used to ignore. She even defended him with her friends when they warned about him. Now she feels like a fool, and this is what considers a crime.
Bridge
Or the crime here is the person he turned Olivia into. Now she hates him with a passion–a person whom she used to love a few weeks back. She has trust issues now. And this is an act worthy of being labeled a crime.
Fine, Baby!
