Cut Here
Songs about regret are the hardest to hear, because they make you think about mistakes you've made. They hurt and are holy hell. You can't stand it...but you can't stop it!
Should've...could've...would've...
Everyone sad has had a great thing go, and loss invites regret, and regret greets depression. And depression says hello to Cut Here, sweetly, without meaning any real goodbye, driving the same vicious circle, whose only virtue is relating to the ecstatic enjoyment or study of beauty, showing it, greatly. The deep feelings it generates have perhaps too much aesthetic appeal.
Should've...could've...would've...
Putting daily schedule and obligations and chores in front of enjoying a silly company was/is/will always be a reality. Life is what it is, sigh. And so is growing apart and suffering the same heartbreak over and over and thinking back and bitterly regretting not doing more and singing the same old song Cut Here. The most perfect depressing tragedy that blooms like beautiful flowers weeping uncontrollably you could never imagine, unless you´re an overly sensitive soul. Eyes are tears, plants that shed pearls, or diamonds, if you will, beautiful but undestructible. You can´t break pain, but pain can break you.
Should've...could've...would've...
It reminds you of how people take their loved ones´ presence for granted, and how they only realize how much they mean to them when they are already gone. Like you don´t really get it, how important the most precious times to be spent together are...until they are gone. Gone like forever and never.
Should've...could've...would've...
Ultimately, you never know what tomorrow may bring, so you should not enjoy and not take care of the people you love while you still have them with you, because you never know which hug will be the last. Or perhaps you do. Either way, thank you.
"So we meet again!" and I offer my hand
All dry and English slow
And you look at me and I understand
Yeah it's a look I used to know
"Three long years and your favorite man
Is that any way to say hello?"
And you hold me like you'll never let me go
"Oh c'mon and and have a drink with me
Sit down and talk a while..."
"Oh I wish I could and I will!
But now I just don't have the time"
And over my shoulder as I walk away
I see you give that look goodbye
I still see that look in your eye
So dizzy Mr Busy, too much rush to talk to Billy
All the silly frilly things have to first get done
In a minute sometime soon, maybe next time, make it June
Until later doesn't always come
It's so hard to think "It ends sometime
And this could be the last
I should really hear you sing again
And I should really watch you dance"
Because it's hard to think
"I'll never get another chance
To hold you to hold you"
But chilly Mr Dilly, too much rush to talk to Billy
All the tizzy fizzy idiot things must get done
In a second, just hang on, all in good time, won't be long
Until later
I should've stopped to think, I should've made the time
I could've had that drink, I could've talked a while
I would've done it right, I would've moved us on
But I didn't, now it's all too late
It's over, over
And you're gone
I miss you, I miss you, I miss you
I miss you, I miss you, I miss you so much
But how how many times can I walk away and wish "If only"
But how many times can I talk this way and wish "If only"
Keep on making the same mistake
Keep on aching the same heartbreak
I wish "If only"
But "If only"
Is a wish too late
Should've...could've...would've...
This means that something that should go on suddenly stops. Like a cut in a movie but without a next take where it should be. An Unrated Extended Cut. Showcasing new scenes. Plus, of course there're also Remastered versions, created to entice. All just to sell to fans.
Should've...could've...would've...
It´s a painful end of a relationship and the accompanying devastating feelings that go with it. Actually, it´s a complete annihilation of your self. Total mayhem. Just losing someone and realizing there are so many things you can still change that may stop you losing them.
Should've...could've...would've...
This cuts really deep. Simply put, it's about always rushing and missing your life, your love, missing the chance to catch up with them and putting things off until you run out of time. Because the mark is always there, it never goes away. But you never buy it.
Should've...could've...would've...
Nevertheless, you can't help wondering if, had you been there for someone not really special, you could have helped them get to a better place and saved them. Regret of not saying the right words, words, mercies that could have saved a relationship or a life or a love, just about any body, is a central theme.
Should've...could've...would've...
You´re such a creaky whiney emo/goth kid, aren´t you? And you´re so smart even going as far as breaking letters, an anagram of the band's name

Wow!
"If only" is indeed a wish too late.

Does this Director´s Cut make you think of how you lose people in your life, how it breaks your heart, and how specifically it's as if these sharp song pieces were written for you?

And who doesn't regret something? I actually, regret everything.
