Strawberries Aren´t Cigarettes!
A beautifully heartbreaking tale of a fairytale-like love that is no longer but still really is! An underlying message to those falling down in Love ... You are my Magic, I am your Magician ... MMMM
You can´t forget about when we first met, how we used to sneak out to be together, even though your car keys were locked inside your car when we needed to run away because I lied to my mom and dad. And you love & hate it so much, that we´ve made foolish decisions. We can't help but associate certain things like strawberries and cigarettes with each other because they always remind you of me. I brought you the sweetest strawberries to change the bitter taste in your empty mouth, on your full lips after smoking cigarettes. I don´t smoke, but you do. I don´t smoke, but I lick. We have a lot of things in common. Like coffee, milk, sugar, ah that muffin, a perfect breakfast, delicious, Aman, ice cream (I scream), ah that lollipoP (you too), Awoman, they are our past time. Alternatively, we take Route 69. The long haul, I Haul, U Haul, reinforces that even if I run away or take a break from our relationship, I will always be drawn back to you because certain things will always remind me of you, certain things like strawberries and cigarettes. Strawberries stand for sweetness, how sweet I am, while Cigarettes fall for addiction, how addicting our love is. But actually, it's also a very sad love story.
Remember when we first met?
You said "light my cigarette"
So I lied to my mom and dad
I jumped the fence and I ran
But we couldn't go very far
'Cause you locked your keys in your car
So you sat and stared at my lips
And I could already feel your kiss
Long nights, daydreams
Sugar and smoke rings, I've been a fool
But strawberries and cigarettes always taste like you
Headlights, on me
Racing to 60, I've been a fool
But strawberries and cigarettes always taste like
Blue eyes, black jeans
Lighters and candy, I've been a fool
But strawberries and cigarettes always taste like you
Remember when you taught me fate
Said it'd all be worth the wait
Like that night in the back of the cab
When your fingers walked in my hand
Next day, nothin' on my phone
But I can still smell you on my clothes
Always hoping things would change
But we went right back to your games
Long nights, daydreams
Sugar and smoke rings, I've been a fool
But strawberries and cigarettes always taste like you
Headlights, on me
Racing to 60, I've been a fool
But strawberries and cigarettes always taste like
Blue eyes, black jeans
Lighters and candy, I've been a fool
But strawberries and cigarettes always taste like you
And even if I run away
Give my heart a holiday
Still strawberries and cigarettes always taste like you
You always leave me wanting more
I can't shake my hunger for
Strawberries and cigarettes always taste like you
Yeah, they always taste like you
You
Long nights, daydreams
With that sugar and smoke rings
Always taste like you
Headlights, on me (and even if I run away)
Racing to 60, I've been a fool (and give my heart a holiday)
Still, strawberries and cigarettes always taste like
Blue eyes, black jeans (you always leave me wanting more)
Boy, I dunno, I don´t wanna be mean or anything, but Troye Sivan, who is gay, is fucking nuts! ´Cause who needs a bad romance? Lady Gaga would definitely set him straight! ´Cause this guy reminisces about a passionate but ultimately doomed romance. The song begins with Sivan recalling their initial meeting, where his love interest asked him to light her cigarette, prompting him to defy his parents' rules and run off with her. Despite being locked out of the car, which forced them to share an intimate moment, they were unable to make it work. The chorus repeats the mantra that "strawberries and cigarettes always taste like you," encapsulating the bittersweet memories that continue to linger long after their relationship has ended.
See, they should have done it in his seedy motel after his fabulous pool and run away on the first plane, on a commercial flight anywhere far away while they could, away from the past, away from everything! Much earlier, at the very beginning, he fucking told her, he fucking begged her, he fucking urged her! He wasn´t kidding, he wasn´t playing any stupid mind games, he wasn´t fucking hiding behind any mask, he wasn´t fucking assuming silly identities however silly he´s been! Now it´s fucking, it´s too fucking late! Baby, I dunno, I don´t wanna be mean or anything, but I can´t stand Troye Sivan, or this song. It just breaks my heart, or my hard balls!
Throughout the song, Sivan references the ways in which his love interest affected his senses and worldview, describing the "sugar and smoke rings" that accompanied their long nights of passion and the way her memory lingers like a scent on his clothes. Additionally, he touches on how she taught him about "fate," the idea that their connection was preordained and therefore inevitable. Toward the end, Sivan admits that even though he's tried to move on, he can't shake the way she's imprinted on him. All in all, "Strawberries & Cigarettes" is a wistful declaration of love and loss that encompasses both the heady thrill of infatuation and the pain of letting go.
But the taste of strawberries and cigarettes always reminds me of you, though strawberries aren´t cigarettes!
Your blue eyes and black jeans remind me of you, though strawberries aren´t cigarettes!
Lighters and candy are just distractions, I've been foolish in my addiction to you, though strawberries aren´t cigarettes!
But the sweet taste of strawberries and the lingering smoke of cigarettes reminds me of you, though strawberries aren´t cigarettes!
Do you remember when you taught me about fate? Though strawberries aren´t cigarettes!
You said it would be worth waiting for, though strawberries aren´t cigarettes!
Like that night we spent in the back of the cab. ´Cause strawberries aren´t cigarettes!
When your fingers intertwined with mine. ´Cause strawberries aren´t cigarettes!
The next day, there was nothing on my phone from you. ´Cause strawberries aren´t cigarettes!
But I can still smell your scent on my clothes. ´Cause strawberries aren´t cigarettes!
I was always hoping things would change between us. ´Cause strawberries aren´t cigarettes!
But we just ended up going back to your same old games. ´Cause strawberries aren´t cigarettes!
Even if I try to run away from you, give my heart a break! ´Cause strawberries aren´t cigarettes!
But the sweet taste of strawberries and the lingering smoke of cigarettes remind me of you. ´Cause strawberries aren´t cigarettes!
You always leave me wanting more of you. I can't stop craving you. ´Cause strawberries aren´t cigarettes!
The sweet taste of strawberries and the lingering smoke of cigarettes remind me of you. Yes, they always taste like you, though strawberries aren´t cigarettes!
Long nights spent daydreaming about you, thinking about sweet things like sugar and smoke rings always reminds me of you, though strawberries aren´t cigarettes!
And this is what happens when a cigarette falls for a strawberry …
