Philippians´ Existentialism In The Philippines
I am like a blade runner who wants to reach the end of the race. I run straight towards that place, so that I can win God's gift. For I belong to Christ Jesus, God has called me to live with him ...
… in heaven, dripping with blood, written in blood, down-to-earth!
“There is no reality except in action. Man is nothing else than his plan; he exists only to the extent that he fulfills himself; he is therefore nothing else than the ensemble of his acts, nothing else than his life.”
Camus, I am Paul, torn between Sartre and the Bible.
Sartre believed in the essential freedom of individuals, that as free beings, people are responsible for all elements of themselves, their consciousness, and their actions. That is, with total freedom comes total responsibility.
“Man is condemned to be free; because once thrown into the world, he is responsible for everything he does. It is up to you to give [life] a meaning.”

Existentialism´s purpose of life states that our lives have no inherent meaning or purpose, but rather it is the purpose we create for our lives that gives them a sense of meaning. This meaning is only present in our consciousness however, the universe, or God, does not care what you are doing.
Philippians in the Bible are all about hardship, humility, love, service, hope beyond suffering, God's glory. Paul tells the Philippians that even though they face persecution and danger, their lives as Christians should be consistent with the truth of God in Jesus who gave himself up in love for others.
Paul centers his letter to the Philippians around a poem that highlights Jesus' attitude of humility in the face of suffering. His letter invites all readers to consider other people's needs and interests, even when life is hard.
One of Paul's purposes in writing this letter was to express gratitude for the affection and financial assistance the Saints in Philippi had extended to him during his second missionary journey and his imprisonment in Rome.
Paul's focus is to be "found in [Christ]," finding a righteousness not based on works of the law but on faith (Philippians 3:9). His goal is to know Christ and the power of His resurrection. He wants to also share in His sufferings, becoming like Him in his death.
He wants the Philippians to not be hard to read, to be people of conviction, centered on Jesus. “Blameless” literally means “without stumbling.” Paul wants them to stand tall, faithful, free in Christ.
Famous verses in Philippians 4:5-7 echo in my torture chamber.
”Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Camus, I am Paul, torn between Sartre and the Bible. And as Camus I explore these themes: the meaninglessness of life and death, the absurd and irrational universe, religion and God, the physical world.
To put it in layman's terms, existentialism is the philosophical belief we are each responsible for creating purpose or meaning in our own lives. Our individual purpose and meaning is not given to us by Gods, governments, teachers or other authorities. I would lie if I said that I do not have trouble accepting the certainty and inevitability of my fate …
Ah, and so as a stranger on deathrow I had to go to the Philippines knowing in advance that each person must choose and commit to meaning and direction in life. I am an optimist, not a nihilist. Albert Camus explored the more refined, and more macabrely apathetic, concept of existential nihilism, which posits that life has no intrinsic meaning or value, or, as Sartre put it, “existence precedes essence.”
In The Stranger, Camus explores questions of how people find meaning in life in a world that can seem cold and absurd. Camus argues that the only certain thing in life is the inevitability of death, and, because all humans will eventually meet death, all lives are all equally meaningless.
After speaking with the chaplain, I no longer view my impending execution with hope or despair. I accept death as an inevitable fact and look forward to it with peace. This realization of death's inevitability constitutes my triumph over society, my triumph over extreme poverty. Because it is so bizarre that an idiot like me can rent a Lambo for only $ 900 a day in the Philippines´capital Manila.
I am a foreigner with some insider knowledge. I have been a stranger among other people because I am so isolated from them. Mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and, by the end of this existential text, even physically. I am imprisoned. I am strange. I am the strangest. Yet the most important thing is that I am, I still am. However absurd!
The absurd is the meaninglessness lying at the heart of our existence, our lives, and our being. Existentialists like me attempt to direct our attention to ourselves as individuals. Hence I force you to think about your relation to such topics as the existence and nature of God, what it is to be Christian, the nature of values, and the fact of your own death.
The stranger in a strange land I have always been is not only a stranger to the world or the others, but also to himself, his existence, his own body, that is, his whole being. Amen!

ANY AMOUNT YOU CAN …
Almost laughed out loud when it went from "death's inevitability" to picture of Lamborghini in Manila. I wonder how many sinners would opt to go to Hell if Charon drives them there in a huge Lamborghini?
In any case, I agree with Paul. It's that thinking that gave my Polish countrymen and women the courage to help their Jewish neighbors during the war in the tens of thousands, even though the Germans would kill their entire families if caught. Just because Paul didn't tell the Philippians that "God and Jesus + Love your neighbor even when broke = growing balls of steel" doesn't mean that's not true. For some.
I went to a Filipino bistro in Prague. I'm sure it's different from what you tried in that food's home country, but that was some bombdiggity cuisine!
Total freedom = total responsibility, love it. Yep in a nutshell how the American founding ancestors failed. I am turning to surfing over being a SubStack content creator. Surfing waves may as well be done in reality. Surf’s up!
