In Ecclesiastes, “toil” refers to all work, all human endeavors in a post-fall world. I call it “heart labor,” but “toil” better captures weariness that permeates our daily life love activity. We keep wrestling with the Grim Reaper, in order to have a life together in these bruised skins.
We’d better understand ans accept the real meaning of bruised skin.
It’s an injury, as from a deathblow, in which the skin is not broken but is discolored from the breaking of small blood vessels that lie underneath the skin. It’s just a contusion, however heart.
